Dr. Paolo Boffetta is currently a professor and associate director at Tisch Cancer Institute, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. He studied medicine at the University of Turin, where he was also a resident at the Second Division of Internal Medicine. He was also a research fellow and research assistant at the university's Cancer Epidemiology Unit. 

Upon moving to the US, Dr. Paolo Boffetta worked as a research assistant at the Division of Epidemiology of the American Health Foundation in New York.  From 1988 to 1989, he worked as a graduate research assistant at the Division of Health Policy and Management of Columbia University, School of Public Health in New York, where he also received his master's in public health.

Throughout his career, Dr. Paolo Boffetta wrote more than 1,300 scientific articles and 80 book chapters.  He has contributed significantly to the understanding of the role of occupation, environment, alcohol, smoking, and nutrition in disease development.

Aside from smoking tobacco, it can be consumed by chewing, dipping, spitting, or snuffing it. Some people assume that switching from smokeless tobacco reduces their risk of falling ill due to tobacco consumption. The truth is, there is no safe kind of tobacco.
